Group Disscussions

Group discussion is the exchange of ideas on a topic. It helps to have several people involved in a discussion in order to get input from several or many people in a group, talk about the goods & bads, rights & wrongs, etc, then determine as a group what is the correct and/or proper viewpoint or answer to an issue.

Some skills that are generated in a Group Discussion are:

Communication Skills: In a Group Discussion there is fair possibility that you improve your communication skills. In a group while sharing your opinions and exchanging views with others you will automatically improve your communication skills.

Divergent Thinking: Group Discussion enables a participating candidate to think in divergent directions to generate more points and a good presentation of the topic in the group. In a group when you present your points you would think and consider all possible points on the topic and thus you improve your thinking process also.

Analytical skills: In the Group Discussion you have to be careful about the points you discuss. You should have enough analytical ability to analyse the topic and the points and then present them in front of others for discussion. You need to be careful so that there is no logical inconsistency in your points.

Presentations

Presentations skills and public speaking skills are very useful in many aspects of work and life. Effective presentations and public speaking skills are important in business, sales and selling, training, teaching, lecturing and generally entertaining an audience. Developing the confidence and capability to give good presentations, and to stand up in front of an audience and speak well, are also extremely helpful competencies for self-development too. Presentations and public speaking skills are not limited to certain special people - anyone can give a good presentation, or perform public speaking to a professional and impressive standard. Like most things, it simply takes a little preparation and practice.

The formats and purposes of presentations can be very different, for example: oral (spoken), multimedia (using various media - visuals, audio, etc), powerpoint presentations, short impromptu presentations, long planned presentations, educational or training sessions, lectures, and simply giving a talk on a subject to a group on a voluntary basis for pleasure. Even speeches at weddings and eulogies at funerals are types of presentations. They are certainly a type of public speaking, and are no less stressful to some people for being out of a work situation.

Personal Interview

Personal interviews represent a bridge that candidates must cross to move from job seeker to new hire. However, many interviewees fail to appreciate personal interviews as a pre-acceptance tool that can help them avoid making a career mistake. In UTTAM students are trained to compete in such challenges and lead. The personal interview gives students an opportunity to learn the exact nature of those needs and sell his ability to fill them while discovering more about the position and the organization. The students can further use these sessions to learn more about the employer and the position as well as to visualize how he might forge working relationships with would-be colleagues. They get awared about the Appearance, tone of voice and body language which give everyone involved clues about cultural fit etc.
